Beginning Spanish I provides an engaging introduction to Spanish language and culture over a 26-week academic year (may be split in 2 segments). This course builds foundational skills in pronunciation, essential grammar, and vocabulary, fostering confidence and fluency for everyday communication through real-world contexts and rich cultural exploration.
Students develop practical communication skills in speaking, listening, reading, and writing, starting with introductions, greetings, and basic vocabulary. The curriculum progresses to describing people using ser, adjectives, and dates; discussing university life with -ar verbs, numbers up to 100, and time; and exploring courses and locations with tener and ir. Further topics include family descriptions with possessive adjectives and -er/-ir verbs; clothing, weather, and preferences using gustar and numbers beyond 100; domestic spaces with estar and ir + a + infinitive; pastimes and sports with gustar + nouns and e-ie verbs; emotions using ser and estar distinctions; food with e-i verbs and irregular verbs; and community places with present progressive and saber/conocer.
By weaving grammar, vocabulary, and Hispanic cultural insights, the course guides students from basic to more complex communication. Through multimedia practice, guided conversation sessions with native speakers, and carefully scaffolded assessments, learners gain the skills and confidence to engage in everyday conversations and understand authentic Spanish in familiar contexts.

Spanish II provides an engaging continuation of Spanish language and culture over a 26-week academic year (may be split into two segments). Designed for high school students and advanced middle school learners who have completed Spanish I or equivalent, this course builds intermediate skills in pronunciation, grammar, and vocabulary, fostering confidence and fluency for everyday communication through real-world contexts and rich cultural exploration.
Students advance their practical communication skills in speaking, listening, reading, and writing, starting with daily routines using reflexive verbs, body-related vocabulary, and adverbs of time. The curriculum progresses to health and well-being with terms for illness and emotions, por/para, and South American wellness practices; chores and errands using regular preterit verbs and direct object pronouns; and shopping with stem-changing preterit verbs and market-related terms. Further topics include travel with irregular preterit verbs and expressions for “becoming” or “realizing”; hotels and gifting using indirect object pronouns and verbs like gustar; technology with imperfect tense and negative expressions; professions with comparative and superlative forms; modern holidays distinguishing preterit and imperfect tenses; traditional festivities integrating both tenses; environmental care with present perfect and simple future tenses; and animals with conditional tense and relative pronouns (que, donde, quien).
By weaving grammar, vocabulary, and Hispanic cultural insights, the course guides students from intermediate to more advanced communication. Through multimedia practice, guided conversation sessions with native speakers, and carefully scaffolded assessments, learners gain the skills and confidence to engage in dynamic conversations and understand authentic Spanish in diverse contexts.
