1. Information We Collect We collect personal information from students under 13 only with verifiable parental consent, as required by COPPA. This information includes:
Personally Identifiable Information (PII): Student’s name, email address, voice, and image (via Zoom sessions and VoiceThread recordings).
Course-Related Data: Assignment submissions, quiz responses, and participation records stored in Canvas.
Contact Information: Parent/guardian’s name, email, and phone number for enrollment and consent verification.
2. How We Collect Information
Direct Collection: We collect PII during enrollment (e.g., registration forms) and through course activities (e.g., Zoom sessions with Lingua Meeting, VoiceThread recordings).
Third-Party Platforms: We use secure platforms (Canvas, Zoom, VoiceThread, Lingua Meeting) to deliver course content. These platforms may collect PII (e.g., name, voice, image) during student participation, under our direct control and with parental consent.
Cookies and Analytics: Our website and platforms may use cookies or analytics tools to track usage (e.g., page visits). These do not collect PII from students under 13 without consent.
3. How We Use Information Personal information from students under 13 is used solely for educational purposes, including:
Delivering course content and assignments via Canvas.
Facilitating conversation practice via Zoom with Lingua Meeting.
Creating and sharing VoiceThread recordings for peer feedback and grading.
Communicating with parents/guardians about course progress or records. We do not use PII for marketing, advertising, or any non-educational purpose.
4. How We Disclose Information We share PII from students under 13 only in the following cases:
Within the Course: With the course instructor and enrolled students in the same course section for educational purposes (e.g., peer feedback on VoiceThread recordings).
With Parents/Guardians: Parents may access their child’s records, including Zoom and VoiceThread recordings, upon request, per FERPA and COPPA.
Third-Party Service Providers: With vetted providers (Canvas, Zoom, VoiceThread, Lingua Meeting) who act as “school officials” under FERPA and comply with COPPA. These providers are contractually obligated to protect PII and use it only for course delivery.
Legal Requirements: If required by law or to protect the safety of students or others, as permitted by COPPA. We do not sell, rent, or share PII with third parties for non-educational purposes.
5. Verifiable Parental Consent Before collecting, using, or disclosing PII from students under 13, we obtain verifiable parental consent via:
Signed FERPA and COPPA Consent Form (included in enrollment materials).
Email or phone verification with the parent/guardian listed on the Consent Form. Parents may revoke consent, request access to, or delete their child’s PII by contacting support@luxmundilearning.com. Revocation may limit course participation if PII collection (e.g., recordings) is required for assignments.
6. Data Security We use reasonable safeguards to protect PII, including:
Secure storage of Zoom and VoiceThread recordings within Canvas.
Encrypted data transmission through vetted third-party platforms.
Access controls limiting PII to authorized course participants and parents. Third-party providers (Canvas, Zoom, VoiceThread, Lingua Meeting) are contractually required to maintain COPPA-compliant security measures.
7. Parental Rights Parents/guardians of students under 13 have the right to:
Review their child’s PII and course records.
Request deletion of PII or revoke consent for further collection.
Refuse further use or disclosure of PII, though this may limit course participation. To exercise these rights, contact support@luxmundilearning.com or (267) 391-5254.
8. Retention and Deletion We retain PII only as long as necessary for educational purposes (e.g., during the course term). Upon course completion or parental request, we delete PII from our systems and instruct third-party providers to do the same, except where retention is required by law (e.g., educational records under FERPA).
